Property Description

Turkey Creek Retreat is one of the most unique and scenic properties available in Colorado. Located in the pristine mountain country between Walsenburg and Westcliffe, this 40-acre property has much on offer: B&B potential, live water, public land access, a well and septic system, and (making it a truly one-of-a-kind offering) a secure, underground bunker (!). The nearly 1,000 sf underground steel shelter, complete with 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a kitchen, is accessed from an above ground 8'x8' room with 2 pull down bunks, making for quick and easy overnight stays on the property. The structure below has been overengineered for maximum safety, and is equipped with blast doors and a military-grade air scrubber to provide a safe retreat from any issue the world has to offer, be it forest fire or biological/chemical/nuclear incident. A productive 300' well is already in place, with a solar-powered pump. A septic system serves the underground shelter, and is stubbed for 3 additional structures, creating the potential for building a set of cabins. In addition, a 40' cargo container is included with a sale. Year-round Turkey Creek runs directly through the property, creating scenic waterfalls and natural pools. And, the parcel directly borders a full section of state land, which in turn directly borders tens of thousands of acres of national forest, offering limitless outdoor recreational opportunities. Moreover, the property has unsurpassed mountain views, and its meadows get abundant sunlight, making great locations for potential greenhouses. This property is off-grid; the seller relies on solar power and a generator, and planned to also make use of emerging battery technology going forward. Wonderfully remote, but easily accessed, the parcel is reached via a county-maintained road. There is no owners' association.
